A Powerful Story

Our guest contributor this month is Sonya Cobb, Patient Advocate at our Eva Women’s Clinic. Her story is a powerful one of our Lord intervening at just the right time.

A young woman recently called us stating her intention to have an abortion. She was visibly nervous and scared when she came to the appointment. She lived with her parents, was single, unemployed and was not in a relationship with the father of the baby. She said that she was undecided about what to do, depending on how far along she was, sharing she had already had one previous abortion.

We had a spiritual discussion where she told me that she was Christian. I prayed with her, told her how much she was loved by our Heavenly Father and to lean on Him to guide her with this heavy decision she was faced with.

During the ultrasound, we were shocked to find out that she was twenty-nine weeks pregnant. Her eyes were frozen on the screen the entire time, she heard the heartbeat and accepted her baby’s pictures. The woman said she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Apparently, she had taken the abortion pill three months earlier, that she was so scared to give birth, but God must want her to have this baby. PRAISE THE LORD! The only way to own up to this was to have this baby with which God had blessed her.

Tears were streaming down her face by the end of the appointment. I tried to console her and told her to get into an OB-GYN as soon as possible.

Upon following up a little while later, she happily told me that she was having a baby girl! The nursery was all ready and her bags were packed ready for the baby whenever she wants to come!

I am so thankful that she came to us for support and praying that she grows in her relationship with Jesus. I’m also looking forward to following up with her soon after her sweet baby girl is born.

Editor’s note: After reading this story you might be wondering why this patient came to us if she was determined to have an abortion. We can only speculate, but often women seek our services because they want to know they are pregnant by getting an ultrasound. The ultrasound looks to confirm viability, looks for the location of the pregnancy, and gives an approximate gestational age. These are all questions that patients who are seeking to abort want answered before moving forward. Our services are free, but the abortion is costly. We are happy when this happens because we not only have an opportunity to save the baby, but also to bring them to Jesus.
