”Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
There are two definitions of the word lifeblood. The literal definition is “the blood of a living organism that is essential for maintaining life.” We hear this referred to in the Bible. The metaphorical definition is “an essential animating force; the most important need to keep an organization, economy or system functioning and successful.” The second is the way we feel about our volunteers.
We cannot do what we do if it were not for people who step up in amazing ways. One of these ways is the many churches and organizations who bless us through serve days where they come for a few hours to do work that we otherwise would have to pay to have done. Today’s story centers around one of the women from Faith Family Church who shared her story and testimony.
Joni is a faithful serve day participant. She came in to get a drink from pulling weeds and shared that 24 years ago she learned of her first pregnancy from us at what was then Pregnancy Choices. It was unexpected, but she and her partner chose to have the baby. Fast forward to today, her baby boy and his wife are expecting their first.
She went on to say “this place” holds a special place in her heart, that the pregnancy test she received that day made her testimony of life, and for that she is grateful.
This short, but sweet story is one of many more stories we may not know about how our Center has impacted people’s lives. We never know where it might come from. It could be in the grocery line, at a community event, or even the dog park (yes, this actually happened to me). Wherever the place, we see these as God winks – His subtle way of reminding us that our work is valued, important, and very much appreciated.
