My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
– John 15:12
Recently a patient came to Eva Women’s Clinic obviously under the influence of something. She was loud, agitated, would not make eye contact, and couldn’t hold a cogent conversation. The nurse who met with her quickly learned she was homeless and a Heroin addict. The woman feared for the child she was carrying. Would the child be normal or have issues because of her substance abuse and lifestyle? On the ultrasound she saw her baby moving around and was normal size. She wept with happy tears. The nurse prayed with her and went on to provide addiction recovery and housing information.
The woman was scheduled to come back in two weeks, but when the time came, she was a no-show. The following week she came in to support a friend who was also pregnant. Obviously still using, the nurse and advocate found themselves alone with her. Knowing that our Lord would touch her despite her condition, they prayed fervently for her to reach out for Christ’s healing and to overcome her addiction. A follow-up appointment was made for her to come for a second ultrasound. It came and went, again a no-show. After several texts to the patient with no response, our hearts ached for her precious child.
Several weeks later came a text! She explained she was unable to respond because she had checked herself into rehab and had successfully completed the program. According to the medical exams she was receiving there, she was still carrying a healthy little girl. She was back home here and very grateful for the help she received at Eva. She was even attending church regularly.
No judgment…only love and Jesus. That’s what we do all for the glory of God.
In Christ,
Paula
