Recently, a young woman and her mother came into our Eva Women’s Clinic seeking an ultrasound. Mom was visibly emotional, and her daughter was visibly frustrated. Once the daughter was taken back to the ultrasound room, a staff member approached the mother to comfort her and find out what was going on. That’s when she broke down. The staff knew there was something more there, a story that hasn’t been told. A mother was clearly in pain.
While the daughter was getting her ultrasound, her mother told our staff member that she had never shared her personal story. You see the mother was in her daughter’s shoes over 20 years ago and chose to abort her baby. She went on to describe the sadness and weight of her decision for all these many years, not wanting her daughter to go through what she had.
At the same time, the daughter told the ultrasound tech she just needed to know how far along she was. This is common a woman’s intent is to have an abortion. She said she didn’t want to see her baby and definitely didn’t want to hear her baby’s heartbeat, but she needed that free ultrasound to know the age of the child in her womb to have an abortion. The woman finished her appointment and left with her mom. What the daughter didn’t know was that mom was holding a painful secret tight.
The Eva team prayed for these two – hard. A short time later the daughter came back asking for another ultrasound, but this time she was with the baby’s father. Both were taken back were taken back to the ultrasound room. This is where the story gets good!
As the ultrasound tech was doing the procedure, she pointed out the baby and asked: “Do the two of you want to hear the heartbeat?” The mother gave a resounding YES asking if she could also have a picture of my baby to show her mom. We learned it was upon showing the ultrasound image with her mother that the mom’s story was shared with the daughter.
Needless to say, the woman kept her baby. The daughter began attending Mom’s Group, dad became part of our men’s ministry, and the grandmother got connected to our recovery ministry, Hope & Healing. The family came full circle. Isn’t it amazing how Jesus does that?
This beautiful story would not be possible if it was not for your support. Whether you are a volunteer, provide material items, and/or donate financially, you are very appreciated. We humbly say thank you for being the proverbial wind beneath our wings!
